What We Believe

Our Story

Pursue What Matters was founded by Matt and Crystal. A dynamic duo with a vivacious spirit and passion to follow Christ with our whole being. We've been married for 18+ years and have three kids between the ages of 11-16.

Our coaching journey began in 2016. First, with a curiosity about personality types and the unique ways God made us (some of us introverts, some extroverts, some big picture people, some practical "make it happen" people). It was amazing to realize these patterns within ourselves and then begin to notice them in others.

This curiosity grew into a desire to walk alongside others, helping them to become more aware of how their innate strengths, liabilities, and patterns were showing up in their lives. This quote really stuck with us:

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it was stupid. - Albert Einstein

Whether we are volunteering in churches, working in our jobs, interacting in our relationships, or anything else in life, if we don't know how God uniquely made us, we can end up in misaligned roles. When this happens, it doesn't maximize our gifts and often leaves us frustrated.

However, when our life is aligned with our true nature––how God made us––this is the place where our gifts flourish and we find deeper fulfillment and purpose.

Seeing the impact this in our own lives and in the lives of others, made us want to learn more. As a result, we spent the next decade growing as coaches and walking alongside others to help them discover how God uniquely made them and the unique call God has on their life.

After working with many people, we found that the quality of your life is the quality of your relationships. And our three most important relationships are: our relationship with God, our relationship with others, and our relationship with ourself.

This is found in Mark 12:29-31 where Jesus shares the greatest commandment. In the verse notice there are three things we are called to love: to Love God, to Love Our Neighbor, and to Love Ourself. The most fulfilling and purposeful moments in life happen when these these three relationships are cultivated. This is where we produce fruit for the kingdom of God.

The Greatest Commandment
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
- Mark 12:29-31

At Pursue What Matters coaching we help you gain the clarity, accountability, and support you need to step into your true identity (how God uniquely made you) and live out your calling (what God has uniquely called you to do) while keeping your three most important relationships–loving God, loving others, and loving yourself–at the center.

Our Faith

Crystal grew up charismatic Pentecostal and Matt grew up Catholic but we currently identify as non-denominational evangelical Christians.

The Christian aspect of our coaching is based on an ecumenical foundation, which means we are not about (or for) any one particular denomination of Christianity over another, but focus on the pillars of our faith that unify us. Essentially, what makes us all Christians.

Our Foundation

The Appostles Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church
(at the time this was written Catholic meant the universal church),
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the ressurretion of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
The only Son ofGod,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
for us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirt and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father [and the Son],
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church
(at the time this was written Catholic meant the universal church)
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
