Our Story
Hi, We're Matt & Crystal: Your Companions in Christian Inner Work
Our inner work journey began in 2019 after closing our social business ALL of Us Matter. This was our fair-trade organization that made artisanal coffee cups to raise awareness and funds to fight human trafficking.
We put everything into our business and loved it! We worked day and night to perfect our cup designs, host gatherings, attend markets, and travel to the other side of the world to work directly with our partner organization in Kolkata, India. It was amazing!
We were building our brand and had the privilege of interviewing Ben Cooley (founder of Hope for Justice), collaborating with Dressember, and our cups were even featured on IF Gathering!
Outwardly, everything seemed to be going right, but inwardly, it was a very different story. We found ourselves continuously stressed out, overwhelmed, and hitting "emotional brick walls," that left us ready to give up.
The Struggle
We realized we were not bumping into our circumstances–because even when our circumstances changed, the problems were still there–but rather, bumping into invisible barriers that were more rooted in our past experiences and the narratives we carried than anything else.
Have you ever noticed how life seems to conspire against you when you are going through hard times? Something goes wrong in one area of your life and then out of nowhere–like a string unraveling–stuff goes wrong in other areas too?
This is because problems don't begin on the outside, they begin on the inside. The closing of our social business was not an isolated event, but the tipping point which exposed everything that had been building up under the surface.
The Turning Point
Our social business didn't close because of outside challenges–there is always another way forward–it closed because we tried to outrun the past experiences and narratives that followed us from childhood, and eventually, they caught up with us.
As a result, God began taking us on a journey of inner work. we spent years and tens-of-thousands of dollars on expensive programs and certifications (both Christian and secular) to navigate our inner landscape.
We discovered how to heal our past, cultivate peace in the present, and pursue our unique calling as we co-create with Jesus on our compelling future.
Our Mission
That is why we founded Pursue What Matters Coaching, because we knew there were other Christians out there in this same place and we didn't want them to have to wander aimlessly for years trying to figure it out alone ...and possibly never get there.
We wanted to provide them with the path and tools–from a Christian perspective–to navigate their inner landscape so they could bring the vision God has laid on their heart to life.
